Using a Current signal to control Motor Speed
Note
The below guidance assumes the motor data parameters have been entered and all other parameters are in a default state
Wiring the Analog Input
Connect the Current signal source to the drive :
Signal (+) → Terminal (DA4) & Signal (0V / GND) → Terminal 0V
Configure the signal type
Select in parameter P16.0 the signal type
Signal Type | Value to set in P-16.0 | Input Voltage vs Motor Speed |
|---|---|---|
0-20mA | A 0-20 | 0mA = 0Hz / rpm 20mA = Maximum Speed (As per set in P-01) |
4-20mA | A 4-20 | 4mA = 0Hz / rpm 20mA = Maximum Speed (As per set in P-01) |
0-20mA (with Scaling) | A ScAL | See "Configure Scaling" below |
Note
The drive will trip "4-20 F" if the current signal is 3mA or less (signal loss detection)
Configure Operating Mode (If required)
The operating mode determines if the motor speed should increase with an increasing Current signal or decrease.
Value set in P-16.1 | Input Current vs Motor Speed |
|---|---|
0 | Motor Speed increases as Analog Input Current Increases e.g 0 to 20mA → 0 to 50Hz |
1 | Motor Speed Decreases as Analog Input Current Increases e.g 0 to 20mA → 50 to 0Hz |
Configure Scaling of Current Signal (If required)
Typical linear example of analog input scaling is : 0mA → 0 Hz & 20mA → Maximum frequency (e.g. 50 Hz) but what if you want for example 2mA → 0 Hz & 10mA → 40 Hz ?
P-16.0 (Analog Input 1 Format) : Set to "A ScaL" (defines terminal input type as scaled current mode)
P-35.0 (DA3 Min V/mA) → Set to 2.0mA (This represents the 2mA as the motor speed start point of the current signal)
P-35.1 (DA3 Max V/mA) → Set to 10.0mA (This represents the 10.0mA as the end point)
P-35.2 (DA3 Min Speed) → Set to 0Hz (This sets the output to be 0Hz at 0mA)
P-35.3 (DA3 Max Speed) →Set to 40Hz (This sets the output to be 40Hz at 10.0mA)
Signal loss detection
When the analog input is set to operate in current mode the drive can detect and react accordingly on signal loss (signal loss is defined as when the current is 3mA or less)
Value set in P-16.2 | Drive Reaction |
|---|---|
triP | Drive Trips 4-20 F and motor Coasts to Stop |
rP | |
Pr1 | |
nonE | Drive Ramps to 0 |
